COSTA MESA Can Do Better.
Costa Mesa is a great place to live, but our quality of life depends on meaningful action being taken on the growing issues affecting our neighborhoods.
We, the undersigned residents of Costa Mesa, are concerned about the direction our city is heading and the impact current policies are having on public safety, neighborhood stability, and education.
Costa Mesa can and should do better. We are calling for responsible, resident-focused leadership and greater accountability from those making decisions on our behalf.
We urge city leaders to address the following core quality-of-life issues:
CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY
-
Costa Mesa’s crime rate is 4,146 incidents per 100,000 residents
-
That rate is 78.4% above the national average
-
Violent crime, property crime, and vehicle theft continue to strain neighborhoods and law enforcement resources
Public safety is the foundation of a healthy community — and residents deserve to feel safe where they live.

IRRESPONSIBLE GROWTH & OVERDEVELOPMENT
-
State-mandated projects, including the Fairview Development Center proposal, could add up to 4,000 housing units
-
These projects would increase traffic congestion and place additional strain on infrastructure, roads, and public services
-
Residents continue to raise concerns about planning decisions being made without adequate local input
Growth should be balanced, thoughtful, and aligned with the character and capacity of our city.

EDUCATION & STUDENT OUTCOMES
-
49% of Newport-Mesa Unified School District students are not proficient in math
-
38% are not proficient in English/Language Arts
-
Parents deserve transparency, accountability, and a clear focus on academic achievement
Strong schools are essential to our community’s future and to maintaining Costa Mesa as a desirable place to raise a family.
